Since MusicLink's "beta" launch a few weeks ago, we've received comments by email, by phone and F2F. We've collected a sampling of how artists, the audience and thought leaders are reacting to MusicLink -- the new way to appreciate music. To add your own comment, send it to contact@musiclink.com.
 I am extremely impressed. I had no idea such a site existed. After hearing that rising bands only receive a tiny fraction of the money from record sales, I was glad to hear there was another way that consumers, like myself, could support the band. I think the main target age of the website would be high school and college students, because at that age level, many people start their own bands, or have friends beginning their own bands. To test the site out, I got my roommates to join me, in typing in some of the newer bands that we knew. Nearly all of the bands had a spot on musiclink.com. Being struggling college students, none of us can afford to pay money at the time. All three of my roommates said they would pay MusicLink at the end of the summer, after working. I plan on donating money as well, to the band comprised of high school classmates, Addison Groove Project, as well as two of the bands my roommates know from Union College.

I really support what you guys are doing, it is a great idea. I think it is fascinating. I thought if I just had the addresses of these people I would send it right to them. But I don't. What you are doing is just great and it is the only way of doing it as far as I can see. I paid-in $60. I like being able to see how much has been contributed to each artist. Even if it is piddling. That's the best part of the site. I learned of MusicLink through a Time Magazine article. It's nice to have a website where I can "do the right thing" and pay the artist. That's a simple, direct message. I will never subscribe to a music download service because I don't want to pay for things I'm not going to use. But if will pay for songs on a per-download basis if the price is $1.00 or less per song. I simply doesn't want to have to pay for songs I'm not going to use. I have a suggestion: When you contact artists, if they want to designate a payment to charity, instead of keeping it themselves, MusicLink should respect that. The artist can promote their favorite charity and MusicLink can promote how much it is providing to charity.
