An Oxford University blogger and Rhodes Scholar graduate biochemist apparently broke a story on Monday, Feb. 6, which resulted in the resignation of a Bush administration NASA press aide -- George Deutsch -- for apparently fabricating a resume item about graduating from Texas A&M University. Washington Post takes blog comments off-line over post about Abramoff
The Washington Post disabled comments on one of its blogs Thursday after the newspaper's ombudsman raised the ire of readers by writing that lobbyist Jack Abramoff gave money to the Democrats as well as to Republicans. NYT: This is the second time in recent months a major newspaper has limited its reader feedback online. An experiment in allowing the public to edit editorials in The Los Angeles Times lasted just two days in June before it was shut because pornographic material was being posted on the site.

The BBC's website carries a profile of Bergen, Norway, "vlogger" Raymond Kristiansen, who uses a consumer-sized video camera during lunch hours to capture political scenes to the consternation of party leaders. Kristiansen's view of the effect of vlogging on politics is discussed. Included are links to five other "digital" citizens creating film, podcasts, blogs, music and written works in the blogosphere.

Chris Daly, a journalism professor at Boston University, looks at blogs from the point of view of the founding fathers, keeping in mind the spirit in which the first amendment was written. Daly compares blogs to the revolutionary writings, like Common Sense, that brought the United States into being, saying that blogs should, for the most part, be entitled to "the full constitutional blessings that the First Amendment guarantees."
