Prior to catching the Internet bug, Kari Chisholm worked as a political consultant and campaign manager at the local, state, and federal level. Notably, he was on the staff of Darlene Hooley’s Congressional campaign in 1996 and managed David Bragdon’s campaign for the Portland [Ore.] Metro Council in 1998. In addition, Kari was the volunteer board chair of X-PAC, a 1000-member nonpartisan 501(c)3 that motivated young people to get involved in politics in Oregon. Kari graduated from the University of Southern California in 1995. He also served as the senior web developer for Lewis & Clark College.

Chisholm says the the LeftyBlogs business model is to garner revenue from sponsorships and advertising. "We work closely with lots of political campaigns, advocacy organizations, and bloggers," says Chisholm. "There are quite a few folks who are thinking and strategizing about these tasks. Most prominently among them: PersonalDemocracy.org, NewoProgressiveCoalition.org, Michael Bassik at mshcdirect.com and Chris Bowers at MyDD.com."
Chisholm says he's motivated by a desire to "change the world -- that's the point of everything we do." The LeftyBlogs project connects progressive bloggers to each other, he says. "And provides a place for lefties to find out what's happening locally."
